Can any brand of breaker go in my panel?
No. Breakers are listed for specific panels, and the label inside your panel door names the acceptable types. Some classified breakers are legitimately tested and documented for use in other manufacturers’ panels, and those are fine when the paperwork names your exact panel. A breaker that merely snaps onto the bus without that listing can seat poorly and run hot, which is a slow problem you will never see happening.
What is a dual-function breaker?
It combines arc-fault and ground-fault protection in one device, so a single breaker watches for the arcing faults that start fires and the current leakage that shocks people. At replacement time it is often the cleanest way to bring an older circuit up to modern protection without touching anything else in the panel.
