Can you move an outlet up behind my TV?
Yes, and it is the single most common relocation we do. The receptacle moves from mid-wall to TV height behind the panel, so the cords disappear entirely. It also replaces the code-violating shortcut of running a cord or an extension inside the wall. If low-voltage cabling for the media gear is moving at the same time, the same openings usually serve both, which keeps the patching small.
Can switches be lowered for accessibility?
Yes. Switches drop to a seated reach and receptacles rise so nobody bends to the baseboard, the standard aging-in-place and wheelchair-access modification. We set heights to recognized reach ranges, sanity-check them against how you actually move through the house, and can work room by room as budget and priority dictate.
Does relocating an outlet need a permit?
It depends on scope and jurisdiction. A minor like-for-like move is often permit-free; extending the circuit, adding boxes, or folding the move into a remodel can trigger one, or ride the remodel’s existing permit. We make that determination for your city or county and state it in the written quote, so the answer lives on paper instead of in somebody’s recollection.
Can the old outlet location disappear completely?
Only if the circuit is re-routed so no junction remains in the wall. Code requires every splice to stay accessible, so the legitimate choices are two: re-route and patch the wall fully clean, or leave a discreet blank-cover box at the old spot. We quote both where both are possible. Burying a junction behind drywall is the one option we will not sell at any price.
Can outlets go in a kitchen island?
Yes, and in a remodel it is far easier at rough-in than after the cabinets and countertop arrive. How do you move a switch to the other side of a doorway?
By routing the switch leg around the opening, usually up and over through the attic in a slab-built house, or through the header path when the framing allows it. Doorway moves are short in distance but real in routing. Done properly, the switch works exactly as it always did, just on the side your hand actually reaches when you walk into the room.
Can you relocate devices in a block wall house?
Yes, with block-appropriate methods: using the existing cells and chases where they cooperate, conduit where they do not, and honest surface raceway when the wall offers no concealed path worth its price in demolition. What we will not do is pretend masonry is drywall. The plan gets made after we see the wall, which is why the in-person look is not a formality on these jobs.
When in my remodel should the electrician show up?
Twice, ideally: at rough-in, after framing changes and before drywall, when moves and additions are cheap and clean, and again at finish for devices and plates. Earlier is even better, while the layout is still on paper, because outlet and switch positions should follow the cabinet and furniture plan rather than force it. Who patches the drywall afterward?
Whoever the written scope says, decided before work starts. On remodels, the drywall trade usually wants every opening at once, so we cut and they close.
